Charles W. Stetson (1858-1911)

A self-taught artist, Stetson created figures and imaginative landscapes renowned for their color. Born in Tiverton, Stetson also did etchings and taught at the PAC in the 1880s. He married Charlotte Perkins and was later wed to Grace Ellery Channing. He spent his later years in Italy where he held many exhibits. Called “The American Whistler” by Whitaker, Stetson helped create the Providence Art Club before his death in Rome in 1911.
